NATIONAL STANDARDS: 1-4
INSTRUCTIONS:
Students run in designated teaching area until teacher gives signal for students to assume an athletic position. Examples might be a skater, basketball player, swimmer, distance runner, etc.
TEACHING HINTS:
Scatter formation.
Run under control.
Show a different position each time.
Vary plane or level of pose such as high, low, curvy, angular.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Students do the best they can at each station within the time limit. This implies that not all youngsters are required to do the same workload. Students differ and their ability to perform fitness workloads varies. Make fitness a personal challenge.
Conclude circuit training with 2-4 minutes of walking, jogging, rope jumping or other self-paced aerobic activity
TEACHING HINTS:
Tape alternating segments of silence and music to signal duration of exercise. Music segments (begin at 35 seconds) indicate activity at each station while intervals of silence (10 seconds) announce it is time to stop and move forward to the next station.
Use signals such as start, stop, and move up to ensure rapid movement to the next station.
Ask students to do their personal best they can. Expect workloads to differ.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Explain task sheets and demonstrate as written.
Have students determine which role they will assume first.
TEACHING HINTS:
Move students into groups of four.
Have equipment and task sheets at designated areas.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Teams of 4-8 students are scattered on opposite ends of the field. The object is to punt the ball over the other team’s goal line. If the ball is caught in the end zone, no score results. A ball kicked into the end zone and not caught scores a goal. If the ball is kicked beyond the end zone on the fly, a score is made whether the ball is caught.
Play is started with a punt from 20 to 30 feet (6 to 10 m) in front of the goal line. On a punt, if the ball is not caught, the team must kick from the spot of recovery. If the ball is caught, players can take three long strides to advance the ball for a kick. The player kicking next should move quickly to the area where the ball is to be kicked. Players are numbered and kick in rotation. If the players do not kick in rotation, one or two aggressive players will dominate the game.
