Week #2: Golf Lesson Plan 6 - Monday

EQUIPMENT:

  • 1 Frisbee per student
  • Music for Circuit Training
  • 1 nine iron per student
  • Reciprocal Task Sheet 5
  • 1 five iron per student
  • 5 Whiffle balls per student
  • 8-10 Jump ropes for circuit training

OUTCOMES:

The student will:

  1. Demonstrate a willingness to do their best during the circuit training fitness routine.
  2. Move under control during the Fastest Tag Ever introductory activity.
  3. Work with a peer to complete the task sheet activities.
  4. Cooperate with peers when playing keep-away.

NATIONAL STANDARDS: 1 – 5

Fastest Tag Ever

INSTRUCTIONS:

All students are it. On signal, they try to tag each other. If they are tagged, they must freeze, but they are eligible to tag other students who pass near them. If two or more players tag each other simultaneously, they are both/all “frozen.”

TEACHING HINTS:

Get all students quickly involved in the activity. Restart the game often rather than waiting for all students to be tagged.

Circuit Training

Students do the best they can at each station within the time limit. This implies that not all youngsters are required to do the same workload. Students differ and their ability to perform fitness workloads varies. Make fitness a personal challenge.

Rope Jumping
Push-Ups
Agility Run
Lower Leg Stretch
Juggling Scarves
Curl-Ups with Twist
Alternate Leg Extension
Tortoise and Hare
Bear Hug

Conclude circuit training with 2-4 minutes of walking, jogging, rope jumping or other self-paced aerobic activity

TEACHING HINTS:

Tape alternating segments of silence and music to signal duration of exercise. Music segments (begin at 35 seconds) indicate activity at each station while intervals of silence (10 seconds) announce it is time to stop and move forward to the next station.

Use signals such as start, stop, and move up to ensure rapid movement to the next station.

Ask students to do their personal best they can. Expect workloads to differ.

Practice the Full Swing

INSTRUCTIONS:

Use the Reciprocal Task Sheet Activities worksheet that follows.

TEACHING HINTS:

Distribute task sheets to all students.

Partner up and discuss the Task Sheet.

Review the full swing if necessary.

There are driving ranges where players can go to practice their swing and hit golf balls.

Frisbee Keep Away

INSTRUCTIONS:

Two players try to keep the Frisbee from being touched by the third person who is lined up between them. Rotate the center after 20 seconds.

TEACHING HINTS:

Put students in groups of three with one Frisbee.
Players may not run and move around the area.
If a poor throw is made and not caught, the center person can choose to opt out of the center position.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Discuss elements of the full swing.

How many calories can you burn jumping rope for one hour?

What is a driving range?

What muscles were used in class today?
