Week #2: Golf Lesson Plan 8 - Wednesday

EQUIPMENT:

  • Task Sheets: Sand Traps, Full Swing
  • Clipboards
  • Pencils
  • 5 Iron or wood for 1/2 class
  • 9 Iron or pitching wedge for 1/2 class
  • Distance Markers/Flags
  • Music for Circuit Training
  • Beanbags for Touch and Go
  • Jump Ropes for Circuit Training

 

OUTCOMES: 

The student will:

  1. Increase cardiovascular endurance during the fitness development.
  2. Improve sand trap shot technique as demonstrated by the instructor.
  3. Refine and “groove” their full swing using a 5-iron.

 

NATIONAL STANDARDS: 1-5

Bean Bag Touch and Go

INSTRUCTIONS:

On signal, run to a beanbag, touch it and run again. Increase challenges with instructions during freeze.

TEACHING HINTS:

Scattered formation. Establish “Freeze”.

Examples: Touch 5 blue bean bags and sprint; Touch 3 bean bags and skip; Go around 4 beanbags and place a knee on any beanbag when task is completed.

Bean bags are commonly used for juggling.

Circuit Training

INSTRUCTIONS:

Students do the best they can at each station within the time limit. This implies that not all youngsters are required to do the same workload. Students differ and their ability to perform fitness workloads varies. Make fitness a personal challenge.

Rope Jumping
Push-Ups
Agility Run
Lower Leg Stretch
Juggling Scarves
Curl-Ups with Twist
Alternate Leg Extension
Tortoise and Hare
Bear Hug

Conclude circuit training with 2-4 minutes of walking, jogging, rope jumping or other self-paced aerobic activity

TEACHING HINTS:

Tape alternating segments of silence and music to signal duration of exercise. Music segments (begin at 35 seconds) indicate activity at each station while intervals of silence (10 seconds) announce it is time to stop and move forward to the next station.

Use signals such as start, stop, and move up to ensure rapid movement to the next station.

Ask students to do their personal best they can. Expect workloads to differ.

This activity will increase cardiovascular strength and endurance.

Sand Trap Shots with Task Sheets

INSTRUCTIONS:

Have students partner up, each with a Task Sheet (see Sheet #8 below). One person is the “doer” while the other person is the “observer”. Observer reads information/instructions to the doer, offers verbal feedback, and places a check in the “yes” or “no” column recording the performance of their partner. Record the date of the practice.

Practice Full Swing using Sheet #7 Task Sheet. Students should still have the Task Sheet from last lesson.

TEACHING HINTS:

Use Sand Trap Reciprocal Task Sheet 8 working in pairs.

Demonstrate hitting from sand using “Running Long Jump Area”

Complete the task sheet until you are directed to “change roles”. Then, the “doer” becomes the “observer”.

Sand Traps are also called “bunkers.”
