New Leader

INSTRUCTIONS:

Students work in small groups. The task is to move continuously in a productive fashion that will warm up the group. One person begins as the leader. When a signal is given, a new leader steps up and leads the next activity.

TEACHING HINTS:

Get students into groups of 4-5 students. Ask one student to be the leader. Change leaders so all students get a chance to lead.

Leaders can perform any activity they choose if there is some type of movement.

Walk, Jog, Sprint

INSTRUCTIONS:

Move to the following signals:

  1. One whistle – walk.
  2. Two whistles – jog slowly.
  3. Three whistles – sprint under control
  4. Long whistle – freeze and perform exercises.

Perform various strength and flexibility exercises between bouts of walk, trot, and sprint. Examples are:

  1. Bend and Twist
  2. Sitting Stretch
  3. Push-Up Challenges
  4. Abdominal Challenges
  5. Trunk Twister
  6. Body Circles
  7. Crab Walk

TEACHING HINTS:

Tape alternating segments of silence and music to signal duration of exercise. Music segments indicate aerobic activity (30-45 seconds) while intervals of silence announce flexibility and strength development activities (30 seconds).

Assure that students run under control (not as fast as they can) and in the same direction.

Encourage students to perform at a level they feel comfortable. Youngsters are genetically different and should not be expected to do the same amount of exercise repetitions.

Strength exercises involve working the muscles to increase in power and size.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Set up four stations and rotate students from station to station.

Station 1: Pitch Shot with Task Sheet #13

Station 2: Pitch and Run with Task Sheet #12
