Pickleball Lesson Plan 4 - Thursday

EQUIPMENT:

  • Cones for perimeter
  • Music and equipment for Mini Challenge Course
  • 4 paddles and balls per court
  • 1 hoop per 5 – 7 students
  • 1 court per 4 students

OUTCOMES: 

The student will:

  1. Participate in Triangle Tag demonstrating agility, speed and cooperative skills during the Introductory Activity.
  2. Participate in Mini Challenge Course Fitness demonstrating agility, speed, strength, and flexibility using form demonstrated by the instructor.
  3. Demonstrate forehand, backhand, lobbing, smashing, and serving skills while playing Pickleball following the rules of the game listed on the handout.

NATIONAL STANDARDS: 1-5

Triangle Tag

INSTRUCTIONS:

Form a triangle by holding hands. One person puts flag in pocket. Person with flag is leader. Group tries to keep leader from getting flags pulled. When flag is pulled, leader becomes tagger and tagger becomes leader.

TEACHING HINTS:

Use whistle mixer, make groups of 3

Choose 3 people to be the taggers

Mini Challenge Course

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Start lying face down
  • Run around 2 chairs.
  • Run and hurdle over 3 benches.
  • High jump over bar.
  • Crab walk the length of the mat feet first.
  • Agility run around 3 chairs.
  • Forward roll the length of the mats.
  • Vault over a jumping box.

TEACHING HINTS:

Set up course with space between stations. Students do each station and then jog, skip, or run to the next station.

Music makes the challenge course more enjoyable.

Play Pickleball

INSTRUCTIONS:

Give students the lesson focus and game time to play Pickleball. Offer feedback and rule discussions.

Play games to 5 and start over so teams get multiple opportunities to compete with a chance to be competitive.

TEACHING HINTS:

Use Whistle Mixer to create groups of 4.

Change teams quickly 2-3 times so students get to play against different peers.
