Week #3: Badminton Lesson Plan 15 - Friday

EQUIPMENT:

  • Four Corners Fitness Instruction Signs
  • Music for fitness
  • Cones                             
  • 1 Badminton racquet per student
  • 2 Shuttlecocks per court
  • Tournament Chart
  • Mats

OUTCOMES: 

    The student will:

  1. Demonstrate cooperation and agility while participating in Balance Tag during the Introductory phase of class.
  2. Participate in the Four Corners fitness activity to improve agility, flexibility, muscular strength, muscular endurance and cardiovascular endurance.
  3. Participate in the badminton tournament in class following set badminton rules and cooperating with classmates in a positive manner.

NATIONAL STANDARDS: 1-4

Balance Tag

INSTRUCTIONS:

To be safe, balance in a stipulated position.

TEACHING HINTS:

Scatter formation; Select several “its.”

Four Corners

INSTRUCTIONS:

Outline a large rectangle with four cones. Place signs with tasks on both sides of the cones. Students move around the outside of the rectangle and change their movement pattern as they approach a corner sign.
The following movement tasks are suggested:
1. Jogging
2. Skipping/Jumping/Hopping
3. Sliding/Galloping
4. Abdominal strengthening exercises
5. Upper body strengthening exercises
6. Side leg work
7. Full body stretches

TEACHING HINTS:

Use Whistle Mixer to create 4 equal groups.

Assign each group to a corner.

Use this time to complete the tournament or play some pick-up games.
