Week #3: Badminton Lesson Plan 12 - Tuesday

EQUIPMENT:

  • Juggling Scarves
  • 2 Shuttlecocks per court
  • Music Intervals and Station Fitness Signs
  • Round Robin Tournament Chart
  • 1 Badminton racquet per student

OUTCOMES: 

The student will:

  1. Demonstrate coordination, focus and eye-hand coordination during the introductory activity Juggling Scarves and follow the instructions set by the instructor.
  2. Participate in the Station Fitness to improve agility, flexibility, muscular strength and endurance.
  3. Participate in the badminton tournament in class following set badminton rules and cooperating with classmates in a positive manner.

NATIONAL STANDARDS: 1-4

Juggling Scarves

INSTRUCTIONS:

Scarves are held by the finger-tips near the center. To throw the scarf, it should be lifted and pulled into the air above eye level. Scarves are caught by clawing, a downward motion of the hand, and grabbing the scarf from above as it is falling.

TEACHING HINTS:

Scattered formation

Place scarves along perimeter of teaching area.

Station Fitness

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Partner resistance exercises
  2. Jump Rope
  3. Crab walks and Body Twist
  4. Curl-ups, push-ups, reverse curl-ups
  5. Stretching
  6. Treadmills
  7. Jumping Jacks
  8. Running in Place

TEACHING HINTS:

Make Station Signs
Use management game to divide class into 8 groups.
Assign each group to a station to begin.
Explain stations.
Explain rotation.
Use music to motivate and musical silences to signal station rotation.
