NATIONAL STANDARDS: 1-4
INSTRUCTIONS:
Students move continuously under bridges created by group members. In groups of five, members count off and get ready for the over and around challenge.
TEACHING HINTS:
Using Whistle Mixer, create groups of five. 4 members of group make bridges that one person must go over and around. As soon as the person moves around or over all others, the next person in the group completes the challenge. Movement flows continuously.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Students do the best they can at each station within the time limit. This implies that not all youngsters are required to do the same workload. Students differ and their ability to perform fitness workloads varies. Make fitness a personal challenge.
Rope Jumping
Push-Ups
Agility Run
Lower Leg Stretch
Juggling Scarves
Curl-Ups with Twist
Alternate Leg Extension
Tortoise and Hare
Bear Hug
Conclude circuit training with 2-4 minutes of walking, jogging, rope jumping or other self-paced aerobic activity
TEACHING HINTS:
Tape alternating segments of silence and music to signal duration of exercise. Music segments (begin at 35 seconds) indicate activity at each station while intervals of silence (10 seconds) announce it is time to stop and move forward to the next station.
Use signals such as start, stop, and move up to ensure rapid movement to the next station.
Ask students to do their personal best they can. Expect workloads to differ.
INSTRUCTIONS:
The advantage of playing half-court basketball with only two or three players on a team is that each player gets to handle the ball more. Regulation rules are followed.
The game three on three can be played with four or five teams. An offensive team of three stands forward of the midcourt line, while another team is on defense. The other teams wait behind midcourt for their turns. A scrimmage is over when one team scores. The defensive team then goes on offense, and a new team comes in to play defense. The old offensive team goes to the rear of the line of waiting players. The game can be varied so that the winning team stays on after a basket is scored. Caution must be used with the winner-stay-on approach because the better players may get much more practice than the less skilled performers.
Change teams often so students get to play with different team members. Keep the games short and the atmosphere focused on enjoyment and fun rather than sheer winning without concern for others.
