Week #1: Lacrosse Lesson Plan 1 - Monday

Balance Tag

INSTRUCTIONS:

Everyone is “it.”  If tagged, you must balance as directed.

TEACHING HINTS:

To be safe balance one hand and one foot on the floor or one foot on the floor

Partner Racetrack Fitness

INSTRUCTIONS:

Set up 6 stations in teaching area. Each station has a Task Card listing 6- 8 exercise to perform. Select the locomotor movement to be performed by partner during each exercise. 

On the start signal, one partner begins the first exercise or stretch listed at the station, while the other partner jogs/gallops/skips/leaps/slides around the perimeter of the stations. 

Upon returning, the partners switch roles and then move down the list of activities on the cards.

TEACHING HINTS:

Use Whistle Mixer to create groups of 6. Use elbow to elbow within the group to make pairs.

Use music to make fitness fun and motivated movement.

Have station task card instructions on each cone arranged in a circle or rectangle around the teaching area.

Use Self-Check Lacrosse Task Sheet 1

INSTRUCTIONS:

Distribute one task sheet, clip board, pencil to each person.

Demonstrate Lacrosse Grip

Demonstrate Cradling

TEACHING HINTS:

The self-check sheet contains all the information needed for students to learn the grip and cradling.

Encourage demonstration and practice of grip and cradling in the air without the stick.

Snowball Relay

INSTRUCTIONS:

This relay is like the fetch relay, except that after 1 person has been fetched, both players run back and pick up another player. The pattern continues until all squad members are running back and forth, picking up the remaining members. This relay can be exhausting for the first few people in line.

TEACHING HINTS:

Use Whistle Mixer to create line/squads of 5-6.

Place lines at one end of area with one person opposite line at other end of area.

INSTRUCTIONS:

What muscles did the students use to balance during Balance Tag?

What muscles were used during the Jump Bands Circuit?

What is the correct grip for the lacrosse stick?  In the air, demonstrate cradling the lacrosse stick.

What is challenging about cradling and running?

Cheer: We’ve got the balls, we got the sticks, we’re the ones with all the tricks… Lacrosse!

EQUIPMENT:

  • One jump band per a group of four students
  • Three balls per student
  • One Lacrosse stick, glove, and helmets for each student
  • Task sheet, clip board, pencil for each student
  • Music for Partner Racetrack Fitness
  • Signs for exercises in Racetrack Fitness

OUTCOMES: 

The student will:

  1. Demonstrate balance, jumping skills and cooperation during Introductory and Fitness activities.
  2. Demonstrate the proper way to hold the lacrosse stick as demonstrated by the instructor
  3. Recite several rules of the game.
  4. Demonstrate the proper Lacrosse Grip and Cradling.
  5. Demonstrate cooperation while playing Snowball Relay.
