NATIONAL STANDARDS: 1-5
INSTRUCTIONS:
Students move around the area to the beat of a tambourine. The step is a trot with the knees lifted. Emphasize proper spacing and moving rhythmically. Stop on a double beat of the tambourine. Try some of the following variations:
TEACHING HINTS:
Have the leader move in different shapes and designs. Have class freeze and see if they can identify the shape or formation.
At times, stop the drumbeat and have the class continue running. Challenge them to maintain the rhythm with their feet. Avoid the tendency to speed the rhythm.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Students do the best they can at each station within the time limit. This implies that not all youngsters are required to do the same workload. Students differ and their ability to perform fitness workloads varies. Make fitness a personal challenge.
Rope Jumping
Push-Ups
Agility Run
Lower Leg Stretch
Juggling Scarves
Curl-Ups with Twist
Alternate Leg Extension
Tortoise and Hare
Bear Hug
Conclude circuit training with 2-4 minutes of walking, jogging, rope jumping or other self-paced aerobic activity
TEACHING HINTS:
Tape alternating segments of silence and music to signal duration of exercise. Music segments (begin at 35 seconds) indicate activity at each station while intervals of silence (10 seconds) announce it is time to stop and move forward to the next station.
Use signals such as start, stop, and move up to ensure rapid movement to the next station.
Ask students to do their personal best they can. Expect workloads to differ.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Stations set up with cones simulating defenders.
Each station will have more cones than the previous with a tighter area. Each student will dribble through each station 2 times once with left foot and once with right foot.
Object is to not knock down cones
Dribbling with a defender
Demonstrate methods of “stealing” ball from dribbler.
Dribble toward defender who tries to take ball away.
TEACHING HINTS:
Use Whistle Mixer to create groups of 3 – 4.
Assign groups of 3 – 4 to each station.
On signal, change stations. Keep head up and the ball close to body.
Use both inside and outside of foot. Maintain control.
Same groups.
1 dribbler to 1 defender or 2 dribblers to 1 defender if in groups of three.
INSTRUCTIONS:
There are 2 even teams each team on each half of the rope with a victory line in the middle. On signal teams begin pulling and first team to pull the other over the line wins.
TEACHING HINTS:
Use a management game i.e. back-to-back to create two teams.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Review skills taught by asking questions.
What muscles were used in today’s fitness activities?
What is the name of a popular sport played by people of all ages all over the world?
