Week #2: Soccer Lesson Plan 9 - Thursday

EQUIPMENT:

20 cones
1 soccer ball per 2 students
Music for Continuity Exercises
Jump ropes for Continuity Exercises

OUTCOMES:

The student will:

Participate in New Leader activities cooperating with classmates and following the instructions given by the teacher.
Participate in Continuity Exercises during the Fitness portion of class as presented by the teacher involving aerobic, agility, strength, and flexibility activities.
Demonstrate the Heel Pass technique to pass the ball to a partner using form demonstrated by the instructor.
Demonstrate the soccer skills of dribbling, passing, and trapping and the ability to cooperate with teammates during the lesson focus portion of class.
Demonstrate previously taught soccer skills and cooperation with teammates while playing Soccer Keep Away.

NATIONAL STANDARDS: 1-5

New Leader

INSTRUCTIONS:

The first person in line is the first leader. On signal leader executes a movement, the rest of the line must follow. On the call, “New Leader” the next person in line becomes the leader

TEACHING HINTS:

Use Whistle Mixer to create groups of 3 – 5.

If a new leader can’t think of a movement, the entire squad runs in place until the next leader takes over.

Continuity Exercises

INSTRUCTIONS:

Rope jumping—forward / 25 seconds
Double Crab Kick / 30 seconds
Rope jumping—backward / 25 seconds
Knee Touch Curl-Up / 30 seconds
Jump and turn body / 25 seconds
Push-Ups / 30 seconds
Rocker Step / 25 seconds
Bend and Twist / 30 seconds
Swing -Step forward / 25 seconds
Side Flex / 30 seconds
Free jumping / 25 seconds

Relax and stretch for a short time.

TEACHING HINTS:

Use music segments (25 seconds) alternated with silence segments (30 seconds). When the music is playing, students jump rope; when silence occurs, students do a flexibility and strength development exercise.

Exercises can be done in two-count fashion. Exercises are done when the leader says “Ready.” The class answers “One-two” and performs a repetition.

Allow students to adjust the workload to their level. This implies resting if the rope jumping is too strenuous.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Heel Pass

Demonstrate the heel pass. Goal: pass to a player behind you. Toe up and ankle are up and you pass the ball with the heel to a person behind you.

Heading

Demonstrate heading to a partner. May use foam rubber balls to begin.

Dribble Through Cones (Review)

TEACHING HINTS:

Partner formation with a ball.
Students will be 10 ‘apart and pass.
This is a blind pass.

Same partner formation.

Same partners. Use drill taught on previous day.

Soccer Keep Away

INSTRUCTIONS:

Use all skills taught to keep ball from middle person.

Rotate when middle person intercepts ball or after a given time limit.
