Week #3: Soccer Lesson Plan 11 - Monday

EQUIPMENT:

  • 20 cones
  • Music to motivate students during Scavenger Hunt
  • 1 ball per 2 students
  • Game rules handout 1 per student
  • Fitness Scavenger Hunt cards for each group

OUTCOMES: 

The student will:

  1. Participate in Group Tag cooperating with classmates and following the instructions given by the teacher.
  2. Participate in Fitness Scavenger Hunt and demonstrate locomotor, strength, and flexibility activities.
  3. Play soccer using skills taught in class, follow the game rules, and cooperate with teammates during the lesson focus portion of class.
  4. Participate in dribbling relay games using skills demonstrated by the instructor and following the rules of the game.

NATIONAL STANDARDS: 1 – 5

Group Tag

INSTRUCTIONS:

Designate 5-6 students to be “it”. These students try to tag the rest of the students. If a person is tagged, they now become a tagger until nearly all the students are caught.

TEACHING HINTS:

Scattered formation.

Usually, it is best to play until only a few players are left so that the class doesn’t stand around waiting for someone else to do the tagging.

Fitness Scavenger Hunt

INSTRUCTIONS:

Ideas for Fitness Hunt Cards:

  1. Run to each corner of the Gym and perform 15 curl-ups at each corner.
  2. Run to the bleachers and perform step-ups.
  3. Carioca to cones set up and touch each cone.
  4. Jog to the tumbling mats and perform stretches listed on the station cards.
  5. Jog to the jump rope station and start jumping.
  6. Jog backwards to touch 2 walls.
  7. Jog forwards and touch 4 colored lines on the courts.
  8. Skip to the sit-up, push-up station. Follow station card instructions.
  9. Slide to the jumping jack station.
  10. Skip to the jump rope station.

TEACHING HINTS:

Use Whistle Mixer to create groups of 5.

Direct students to work as a team to “hunt” for the exercise space/area.

Assign each group a different starting point.

Give each group a “Fitness Hunt” Card.

Additional instructions can be added.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Soccer Game and Rules

Show a videotape of soccer and explain rules. 

Play Soccer

TEACHING HINTS:

Give students a rules handout to read.

Create teams ahead of time.

Assign students to playing field.

Dribbling relays

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Dribble the ball with speed to the cone and back; then next person goes.
  2. Dribble in and out of the cones and back to the line, then next person goes, sit when done.
  3. Dribble to cone; leave ball at cone and run back. The next person runs to cone and dribbles ball back and so on. First line done wins.

TEACHING HINTS:

Use Whistle Mixer to create groups of 5 – 6.

Teams of 5 – 6 students.

Discuss how short Soccer Games went. Ask if any questions over the rules.
