EQUIPMENT:
OUTCOMES:
The student will:
NATIONAL STANDARDS: 1-5
INSTRUCTIONS:
Students perform a variety of instructor selected locomotor movements over, through and around many hula-hoops on the floor.
TEACHING HINTS:
Scattered formation
When the teacher blows the whistle and shouts out a number, that number of students must move into a hoop without any body part touching the floor outside the hoop.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Tape alternating segments of silence and music to signal duration of exercise. Music segments indicate moving around the hexagon while intervals of silence announce flexibility and strength development activities.
TEACHING HINTS:
Outline a large hexagon with six cones. Place signs with locomotor movements on both sides of the cones. Locomotor movements to use are Jogging, skipping, galloping, hopping, jumping, sliding, leaping, and animal movements. Sport movements such as defensive sliding, running backwards, and running and shooting jump shots can also be used. The signs identify the hustle activity students are to perform as they approach a cone.
During the hustle, faster moving students should pass on the outside of the hexagon.
Change directions at times to keep students spaced out properly.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Review passing skills taught yesterday.
Teach New Passes: Hook pass, jump pass, behind-the-back pass
Demonstrate use of all passes for goal shooting.
Practice all skills in stations:
Station 1: Chest, bounce, overhead, one-handed shoulder/baseball.
Station 2: Side arm, hand-off, and roller pass.
Station 3: Hook pass, jump pass, behind-the-back pass.
Stations 4: Goal shooting using passes learned.
TEACHING HINTS:
Set up signs for teach of the stations. Put key points on the signs to remind students about using proper technique.
Rotate students to a new station every 4 minutes.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Players take a straddle position in lane formation. The first player hands the ball overhead with both hands to the player behind, who in turn hands the ball between her legs to the next player. The ball goes over and under down the line.
TEACHING HINTS:
Form relay teams of 4-6 players on each team. This is an excellent relay for all students because it doesn’t require speed or quickness.
If one teams wins multiple times, create new teams.
INSTRUCTIONS:
When and where did the popularity of Team Handball begin?
When did it appear in the Olympics?
Discuss the challenges of each pass and style of goal shooting.
Cheer: Goal shooting, that’s for me!
