Week #2: Ultimate Frisbee Lesson Plan 9 - Thursday

EQUIPMENT:

  • 10 cones for Fitness Scavenger Hunt Cards
  • Instructional cards for Fitness Scavenger Hunt
  • Music for Fitness Scavenger Hunt Fitness
  • 1 Frisbee per game setting
  • Colored pinnies for ½ the class
  • Cones to depict game and class areas

OUTCOMES: 

The student will:

  1. Participate in Combination Movements during the Introductory Activity demonstrating cooperation and agility.
  2. Participate in the Fitness Scavenger Hunt following directions and demonstrating form during the activities as demonstrated by the instructor.
  3. Play Ultimate Frisbee demonstrating cooperation amongst classmates and following the rules of the game.

NATIONAL STANDARDS: 1-5

Combination movements

INSTRUCTIONS:

Teacher calls out movements and students follow. Movement suggestions: hop, turn around, and shake; jump, make shape in air, and balance; skip, collapse, and roll; curl, roll, jump with 1/2 turn; whirl, skip, sink slowly; hop, collapse, creep; kneel, sway, jump to feet.

The following are some examples of exercises that can be used for Pit exercises.

  1. Arm Circles
  2. Bend and Twist
  3. Abdominal Challenges
  4. Knee to Chest Curl
  5. Push-Up Challenges
  6. Trunk Twister

TEACHING HINTS:

Scattered formation.

 

After each movement phrase, student will skip while waiting for next instruction.

Fitness Scavenger Hunt

INSTRUCTIONS:

Ideas for Fitness Hunt Cards:

  1. Run to each corner of the Gym and perform 15 curl-ups at each corner.
  2. Run to the bleachers and perform step-ups.
  3. Carioca to cones set up and touch each cone.
  4. Jog to the tumbling mats and perform stretches listed on the station cards.
  5. Jog to the jump rope station and start rope jumping.
  6. Jog backwards to touch 2 walls.
  7. Jog forwards and touch 4 colored lines on the courts.
  8. Skip to the sit-up, push-up station. Follow station card instructions.
  9. Slide to the jumping jack station.
  10. Skip to the jump rope station.

TEACHING HINTS:

Use Whistle Mixer to create groups of 5.

 

Direct students to work as a team to “hunt” for the exercise space/area.

 

Assign each group a different starting point.

 

Give each group a “Fitness Hunt” Card.

Ultimate Frisbee Round Robin Tournament

INSTRUCTIONS:

Create Round Robin Tournament Chart

Explain Tournament rules and procedures to students

TEACHING HINTS:

Use Whistle Mixer to create groups of 7

Direct students to game areas defined by cones

Assign one team per game to put on colored pinnies
