Week #2: Ultimate Frisbee Lesson Plan 7 - Tuesday

EQUIPMENT:

  • 10 cones for Fitness Scavenger Hunt Cards
  • Instructional cards for Fitness Scavenger Hunt
  • Music Intervals for Fitness Scavenger Hunt
  • Reciprocal task sheets for each student
  • Clip boards and pencils, 1 per 3 students
  • 1 Frisbee per two students

OUTCOMES: 

The student will:

  1. Perform a variety of locomotor activities and stretches during the Move and Stretch Introductory Activity.
  2. Participate in the Fitness Scavenger Hunt during the Fitness portion of class.
  3. Complete the Reciprocal Task Sheet on Throwing Skills following the directions described by the instructor and cooperating with classmates.
  4. Demonstrate field mechanics of Ultimate Frisbee during the Lesson Focus/Game section of class using form demonstrated by the instructor.

NATIONAL STANDARDS: 1 – 5

Move and Stretch

INSTRUCTIONS:

Direct students to perform a given locomotor movement until Freeze is called.

On Freeze, students then perform a directed stretch in place.

TEACHING HINTS:

Scatter formation

On the go signal, students jog until a stop signal is given.

On the following stop signals, have the students perform a variety of stretching poses.

Direct a variety of locomotor movements such as skip, slide, gallop, etc.

Fitness Scavenger Hunt

INSTRUCTIONS:

Ideas for Fitness Hunt Cards:

  1. Run to each corner of the Gym and perform 15 curl-ups at each corner.
  2. Run to the bleachers and perform step-ups.
  3. Carioca to cones set up and touch each cone.
  4. Jog to the tumbling mats and perform stretches listed on the station cards.
  5. Jog to the jump rope station and start rope jumping.
  6. Jog backwards to touch 2 walls.
  7. Jog forwards and touch 4 colored lines on the courts.
  8. Skip to the sit-up, push-up station. Follow station card instructions.
  9. Slide to the jumping jack station.
  10. Skip to the jump rope station.

TEACHING HINTS:

Use Whistle Mixer to create groups of 5.

Direct students to work as a team to “hunt” for the exercise space/area.

Assign each group a different starting point.

Give each group a “Fitness Hunt” Card.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Reciprocal Task Sheet #1 on Backhand Throw

Use a demonstration group to explain the Task Sheet use.

Field Mechanics During a Game

TEACHING HINTS:

Using Whistle Mixer create groups of 3.

Assign first doer, catcher, observer.

Assign practice areas for the groups.

Explain safety rules.

 

Basic Rules

Explain field and end zones

Throw Frisbee to advance up field

Players are allowed to take one step

Opposing player counts to five

If Frisbee is dropped or opposing player gets to 5 then the Frisbee changes possession

No contact with other players

Use Whistle Mixer to make groups of 6.

On the go signal, have one student pick up a Frisbee for the rest of the group and 3 colored pinnies to play 3 on 3 games.

Each section of the teaching area is prepared for a mini game with students playing a game of Ultimate Frisbee 3 against 3. Cones should be set out accordingly to give enough space for game play.

On the go signal, have the games begin and use the freeze signal to stop the class and go over ways that they can improve their moves and passes during their games.

On the go signal, students resume game. The games will stop when a team gets 3 points. Winning teams can play each other during the Game portion of class or the next class meeting and losing teams will continue to play each other.

INSTRUCTIONS:
