Unit Objectives:

The student will:

  1. Demonstrate teamwork by communicating with classmates to move in same direction during the Loose Caboose.
  2. Perform various cardiovascular, strength building and stretching activities as demonstrated in class.
  3. Increase his eye hand coordination when throwing and catching a beanbag.
  4. Decrease his reaction time and increase quickness by performing various movement activities in the Weave Drill.
  5. Demonstrate visual skills and creativity by leading and following movements during the Follow the Leader activity
  6. Run smoothly and rhythmically while performing locomotor movements to the beat of the music
  7. Dodge classmate quickly without falling or colliding with another student during the Tag Introductory Activity.
  8. Demonstrate teamwork by staying connected to teammates during the Capture the Flag Introductory Activity.
  9. Perform various fitness activities at different stations, as demonstrated in class to improve her fitness levels.
  10. Demonstrate good listening skills by matching movements to the sound of the drum.
  11. Demonstrate proper stretching and cardiovascular activities as demonstrated in class.
  12. Name the changes in body functions that occur when one exercises, e.g. increased heart rate, breathing rate.
  13. Perform various stretching and strength building activities during Fitness Challenges.
  14. Perform proper arm swing techniques while hitting the ball against the wall as demonstrated in class.
  15. Demonstrate proper volleyball approach jumps to the net as demonstrated in class.
  16. Execute proper technique when setting the volleyball as demonstrated in class.
  17. Perform proper footwork and ball control when setting the volleyball, as demonstrated in class.
  18. Improve her eye-hand coordination by hitting and catching a volleyball to herself.
  19. Perform the underhand serve as demonstrated in class.
  20. Perform the overhand serve using technique demonstrated in class.
  21. Perform the forearm pass while using techniques demonstrated in class.
  22. Communicate with his teammates calling for the ball as demonstrated in class, e.g. “mine”, “yours.”
  23. Demonstrate eye hand coordination by performing the bump pass for 1 minute as demonstrated in class.
  24. Set the ball back and forth with his partner 10 times in a row, using the technique demonstrated in class.
  25. Back set to a partner 10 times using the technique demonstrated in class. Execute the spiking approach at the appropriate station using techniques demonstrated in class.
  26. Self-evaluate spiking skills while trying to spike the ball into a target at the designated station practice.
  27. Practice two-handed blocks and perform two-person blocks during the lesson focus activities.
  28. Perform one and two arms forearm passes using skills demonstrated by the instructor.
  29. Execute the side roll 5 times while reaching and forearm passing the ball.
  30. Perform various volleyball skills correctly during the partner Task Sheet Evaluation activities.
  31. Volley the ball in groups of 6 and complete 5 consecutive volleys during the Keep It Up game.
  32. Demonstrate an understanding of the Overhand Serve and Forearm Pass by evaluating and helping classmates.
  33. Participate in a game that requires three touches per side before the ball goes over the net using skills demonstrated in class by the instructor.
  34. Practice improving communication skills by working with teammates in the game Three-and-Over.
  35. Demonstrate an understanding of the game of volleyball by playing a modified game.
  36. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of basic volleyball rules and terminology by scoring a minimum of 75% on a written exam.
  37. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of volleyball skills by playing in the tournament and using techniques demonstrated in class.
