NATIONAL STANDARDS: 1-5
INSTRUCTIONS:
Students run in designated teaching area until teacher gives signal for students to assume an athletic position. Examples might be a skater, basketball player, swimmer, distance runner, etc.
TEACHING HINTS:
Scatter formation.
Run under control.
Show a different position each time.
Vary plane or level of pose such as high, low, curvy, angular.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Tape alternating segments of silence and music to signal duration of exercise. Music segments indicate moving around the hexagon while intervals of silence announce flexibility and strength development activities.
TEACHING HINTS:
Outline a large hexagon with six cones. Place signs with locomotor movements on both sides of the cones. Locomotor movements to use are Jogging, skipping, galloping, hopping, jumping, sliding, leaping, and animal movements. Sport movements such as defensive sliding, running backwards, and running and shooting jump shots can also be used. The signs identify the hustle activity students are to perform as they approach a cone.
During the hustle, faster moving students should pass on the outside of the hexagon.
Change directions at times to keep students spaced out properly.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Using the backhand throw, have students throw a short distance (about 15 ft) and try to land the Frisbee in a hoop.
Encourage throwing at different levels and speeds to keep motivation at a high level.
TEACHING HINTS:
Students work with a partner. Space partners about 15 ft apart with a hoop beside them. The goal is to softly throw the Frisbee into the hoop target. Partners throw back and forth to each other’s hoop target.
Increase or decrease distance as necessary depending on the skill of students.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Find a partner and walk around the area while tossing and catching with their partner.
TEACHING HINTS:
Encourage students to start at a short distance apart and then gradually increase the distance as their skill increases.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Why is it important to practice balancing skills?
Were there any fitness activities done today that you found particularly difficult and why were they difficult?
Discuss elements of Frisbee rolling, passing, catching that may have caused difficulties.
Cheer: We love to play Frisbee!!!
