Week #2: Rhythmic Gymnastics Lesson Plan 10 - Friday
Music for student created routines
Ropes, hoops, ribbons, balls: 1 per student
Music for Parachute Fitness
The student will:
Participate in Marking demonstrating the ability to closely follow a partner and move under control.
Participate in Parachute Fitness Activities to improve strength, endurance, agility, coordination, and aerobic capacities.
Demonstrate a self-created routine using the selected apparatus.
NATIONAL STANDARDS: 1-5
Introductory Activity (2-3 Minutes)
Students find a partner. Under control, one partner runs, dodges, and tries to lose the other, who must stay within 3 feet of the runner. On signal, both stop and freeze. Chasers must be able to touch their partners to say that they have marked them. Partners then change roles.
Allow a point to be scored only when they touch a specified body part (i.e., knee, elbow, left hand).
Clarify it is not a tag game but rather shadowing your partner. Allow one giant step in any direction to see if they can “mark” their partner.
Fitness Development (8-12 Minutes)
Parachute Fitness Activities
16 Runs clockwise 16 Runs counterclockwise 16 Jumps to center 16 Jumps back 8 count lift overhead 8 count lower to toes 4 count lift 4 count lower
Repeat all, but increase difficulty by holding chute overhead on CW run

After the aerobic movements above have been learned, stop the music, and insert the exercises below.
Toe Touches: Lift chute taut to chin. Bend forward and touch grip to toes. Hold taut to chin.
Curl Ups: Curl-up, bend knees, lie back, extend legs. Repeat 16 times. Hold Parachute sitting position in a circle. Curl up, bent knees. Extended legs under chute and lie on back.
Dorsal Lifts: Prone position with head toward chute with arms straight and the chest taut. Lift arms and chest and hold for 4 counts.
Sitting Leg Lift: Sit with legs under chute; on signal lift a leg off ground for 6 to 10 seconds. Try to keep leg straight. Alternate legs. Try a variation: Side leg lefts. Lie on side. Lift top leg and lower.

“Jump back and tighten chute!”
“Lift overhead!” (8 Counts.)
“Lower to toes”
“Again!” “Up! Down!”
“Hold overhead and run left!” (32 Counts.)

Lesson Focus (15-20 Minutes)
Several groups perform routines for class simultaneously.
Play appropriate music for the routines.
Do not have anyone perform alone as it can cause embarrassment. Set etiquette/ behavior rules before presentations begin. Clap for all students.
Evaluation/Review and Cheer
Make a general comment praising student creativity. Cheer: Rhythmic Gymnastics, yeh!
