NATIONAL STANDARDS: 1 – 5
INSTRUCTIONS:
Each student bends over, reaches between the legs with the left hand, and grasps the right hand of the person to the rear. This continues down the line until all hands are grasped. On signal, the last person in line lies down, the next person backs over the last person and lies down, and so forth until the last person lies down, and then immediately stands and reverses the procedure. The first team to zip and unzip the zipper is declared the winner.
TEACHING HINTS:
Divide class into lines of 7-9.
Players make a single-file line.
Space lines out in area.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Five or six fitness activities are arranged in the center (the Pit) of a large circle outlined with marking spots (the racetrack). If desired, tumbling mats can be placed in the center of the racetrack to delineate the pit stop area. Students work with a partner and alternate running (or doing other locomotor movements) around the racetrack and going to the pit to perform a strength or flexibility exercise. A different exercise should be performed each time, so students assure variety in their workout.
The following are some examples of exercises that can be used for Pit exercises.
TEACHING HINTS:
Intervals of 30 seconds of music with 10 seconds of silence can be used to signal role changes. The student who was running the track now goes to the pit to exercise and vice versa.
Assure that students run under control (not as fast as they can) and in the same direction.
Allow students to perform at a level they feel comfortable.
Students are genetically different and should not be expected to do the same amount of exercise repetitions.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Demonstrate Passing and Catching on the Run
TEACHING HINTS:
Use Back-to-Back to create partners.
Direct students to space 10’apart facing partner.
1-student retrieves Frisbee.
On signal, students will begin to pass the Frisbee back and forth to each other.
On the second signal, students will then run across the field while passing the Frisbee back and forth to each other.
Partners jog 10 feet apart keeping pace with each other while tossing the Frisbee back and forth
Practice backhand, underhand, and sandwich catch
Keep the students moving quickly by having multiple lines and alternate starts.
Those who are more advanced can step back a longer distance and pass back and forth to each other.

TEACHING HINTS:
Use Whistle Mixer to create groups of 5 – 7.
Players make a large circle.
One person retrieves Frisbee.
One player stands in the center of each circle with eyes covered. A Frisbee is tossed and passed from player to player around the circle. Failing to catch the Frisbee or making a bad toss incurs a penalty. That player takes one long step backward and stays out of the game for one turn while running in place. Anytime after five seconds, the center player calls, “Stop.” The player caught with the Frisbee steps back and stays out for one turn while running in place. The center player should be allowed two or three turns and then change.

What is challenging about passing and catching on the run?
What did you find the most fun about the Weave Drill and Four Corners?
